Belated Christmas Post + Knitting Resolutions

So Christmas was almost a week ago and I’ve been completely remiss in posting about the knitting related gifts I got. Mostly because I wanted to take pictures before I made a post…and I’m lazy.

ANYWAY! Here we go!

I desperately wanted this book. DESPERATELY.

I desperately wanted this book. DESPERATELY.

First up is The Principles of Knitting by June Hemmons Hiatt. I’ve been looking at this book for MONTHS and put it as one of the highest wishes on my gift list and I was lucky enough to receive it. I’ve only flipped through it so far, but there is a TON of information and illustrations. I’m pretty sure if I ever have a question about ANYTHING I can find an answer in here.

I about screeched in delight.

Yes, it is what you think it is. A mother-effing yarn swift y’all!! This was my “santa” gift request. I wanted one for ages and had been holding off on winding any yarn that were in hanks JUST IN CASE. I even went so far as to give my sister warnings when Knit Picks would stop shipping in time for Christmas. While this one isn’t from knit picks, I’m absolutely IN LOVE WITH IT. In fact, he’s been named Ricky Swift. Because I AM AWESOME. I also received a skein of Lion Brand Homespun from my secret santa at work…I may talk about knitting too much…

In regards to current progress, I’m working on a pair of socks for myself and I’m nearly done with the first one.

I need to start on the boyfriend’s mom’s hat soon since I’ll be heading up next week. But I’m sure I can cut it close.

Now, with 2013 quickly approaching I need to figure out what I’m going to do to improve my knitting.

Mallory’s to do list of knitting things to do in 2013:

  • Knit a shawl
  • Knit something fair isle
  • More socks

Yes, nothing too crazy but completely do-able…I hope. Also, bonus points if you catch the reference in bold!

How was your holiday?

  1. I only recently got a yarn ball winder and I LOVE it. I literally sat down and wound every bit of yarn that I owned into adorable little yarn cakes. The next logical step for me is to get a swift but its not really in my budget right now. Lucky for you, Santa is very generous!

    • I had a winder without a swift and I usually would wind hanks by hand into balls and then the balls into cakes. It’s nice to skip that step. Plus, center-pull cakes look SO AWESOME!
